Our Furry pets

Rabbits
Rabbits

Rabbits make great family pets. They are friendly, intelligent and clean. With space to exercise, suitable accommodation, food and bedding most rabbits are happy living indoors or outside.  You will need to devote some time every day to their care. Rabbits generally need a little more attention than smaller pets (hamsters and gerbils etc) and can occasionally scratch and bite. For this reason we do not recommend them as pets for younger children. With appropriate supervision they make ideal pets for older children and usually live 8-10 years.

Hamster

The most popular and best known small rodent pets, hamsters are naturally solitary creatures that prefer their own company. They generally live for 2 to 3 years and are most active during the evening and at night.

Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs are inquisitive, friendly animals that enjoy being handled and rarely bite or scratch – making them ideal pets for young children. They are active during the daytime, they are fun to watch and play with, and they communicate vocally with different noises having different meanings.  They originate from South America and live between 4 and 8 years. Males are known as boars; females as sows. They like company and, as with all pets, should be treated gently – they can be nervous creatures.

Gerbils

Gerbils are inquisitive, friendly animals that rarely bite and make good pets for children of all ages. They are easy to look after, hygienic, and sociable. They love digging! Unlike hamsters, Gerbils should not be kept on their own but in same sex pairs or groups. They generally live for 3 to 5 years and are most active during the evening and at night.

Rats
Rats

Domestic rats are clean, highly intelligent and social animals which enjoy human company and make wonderful family pets. They should not be confused with the wild rat, although they belong to the same species. As long as they are handled correctly from infancy they can share your home quite safely, they are clean and docile animals. They need companionship and at least an hour of exercise each day outside their cage – so make sure you are able to devote this time to them. Like most rodents, rats should be kept in single sex pairs or groups to prevent unwanted litters of babies.  They generally live for 2 to 3 years.
